Gingerbread Houses and Trains

I have officially helped make a gingerbread house! It's pretty pathetic that I'm 22 and this was my first one haha. Last night, Mitch went to play basketball with his friends, so I decided to go help with the festivities at my mom's house. My mom invited my nieces and nephews over to make a gingerbread house and gingerbread train. It was so much fun! My 3 nephews worked with my sister on the train, while my mom and I worked with the 4 nieces on the house. They turned out really well! We just wish that Brooklyn could have come up to help us out!

The "before" of our house....

Everybody workin hard!

Cinnamon Rolls!

Like always, I decided that I wanted to learn how to do something I haven't really done before. This time, I wanted to learn to make cinnamon rolls. When I was a lot younger, I went through a phase that I LOVED cinnamon rolls, so everytime my family would come to St. George to visit, my Grandma Blake would be waiting for me with everything out to make them! Unfortunately... I never REALLY learned to make them, just helped her pour things into the bowl and things like that. So anyways, a few weekends ago, I asked my mom to teach me how to make them. This was one of the pans that we made....

They were YUMMY. So being the "domesticated" girl that I am, I decided that I would make them again all by myself the next day. Wow. Let me just say, these are quite an ordeal to make, especially when you're all alone. It took me like 4 or 5 hours! But in the end, I made 74 cinnamon rolls! I conveniently baked them in pans like the one above... so that we could run them to people in the ward and some family members. I felt pretty stinkin good about myself after that.... but I'm probably done making cinnamon rolls until next Christmas haha Idk how my mom does it! I swear, she has made some sort of Christmas goodie EVERY DAY in December!

One Of My Favorite Christmas Stories!

Misha Tells the Christmas Story: Two Babies in a Manger

Author Unknown

In 1994, two Americans answered an invitation from the Russian Department of Education to teach morals and ethics (based on Biblical Principles) in the public schools. They were invited to teach at prisons, businesses, the fire and police departments and a large orphanage. About 100 boys and girls, who had been abandoned, abused and left in the care of a government-run program, were in the orphanage. They relate the following story in their own words.

It was nearing the holiday season, 1994, time for our orphans to hear for the first time, the traditional story of Christmas. We told them about Mary and Joseph arriving in Bethlehem. Finding no room in the Inn, the couple went to a stable where the baby Jesus was born and placed in a manger. Throughout the story, the children and orphanage staff sat in amazement as they listened. Some sat on the edges of their stools, trying to grasp every word.

Completing the story, we gave the children three small pieces of cardboard to make a crude manger. Each child was given a small paper square which had been cut from yellow napkins I had brought with me. No colored paper was available in the city. Following instructions, the children tore the paper and carefully laid strips in the manger for straw. Small squares of flannel, cut from a worn-out nightgown an American lady was throwing away as she had left Russia, were used for the baby’s blanket. A doll-like baby was cut from tan felt we had brought from the United States.

The orphans were busy assembling their mangers as I walked among them to see if they needed any help. All went well until I got to one table where Misha sat. He looked to be about six years old and had finished his project. As I looked at the little boy’s manger, I was startled to see not one, but two babies in the manger. Quickly I called for the translator to ask the lad why there were two babies in the manger. Crossing his arms in front of him and looking at the completed manger scene, the child began to repeat the story very seriously. For such a young boy, who had only heard the Christmas story once, he related the happenings accurately - until he came to the part where Mary put the baby Jesus in the manger. Then Misha started to ad-lib, he made up his own ending to the story as he said, “And when Maria laid the baby in the manger, Jesus looked at me and asked if I had a place to stay. I told him I have no mama and I have no papa, so I don’t have any place to stay. Then Jesus told me I could stay with him. But I told him I couldn’t because I didn’t have a gift to give him like everybody else did. But I wanted to stay with Jesus so much, so I thought about what I had that maybe I could use for a gift. I thought that maybe if I kept him warm, that would be a good gift. So I asked Jesus, ‘If I keep you warm, will that be a good enough gift?’ And Jesus said to me, “If you keep me warm, that will be the best gift anyone ever gave to me.” So I got into the manger, and then Jesus looked at me and He told me I could stay with Him - for always.”

As little Misha finished his story, his eyes brimmed full of tears that splashed down his cheeks. Putting his hand over his face, his head dropped to the table and his shoulders shook as he sobbed and sobbed. The little orphan had found someone who would never abandon nor abuse him, someone who would stay with him -- for always!

And the Americans? They had learned the lesson they had come there to teach -- that it is not what you have in your life, but WHO you have in your life that really counts. We all should give thanks for the people that "keep us warm" in life; and for all of God's many blessings to us: freedom from want, life, love, togetherness, and for the enduring love of Jesus Christ, the one person who keeps us warm and safe for always.

One Day...

One day, probably far far away, I will buckle down and finish the two quilts I have fabric cut out for. They are seriously both about half way done, but for some reason I just haven't been motivated to finish them. Well.... I just may have found my motivation! Today I went to the Dicken's festival and there was booth full of the cutest quilts! I fell in love with one of them, so Becky bought me the pattern for Christmas! Now I'm super excited and want to hurry and make it... but I've made a deal with myself that I have to finish my other two quilts first. I seriously have an addiction to making these baby quilts! It's pretty sad... I have a box full of them and no baby to use them. I need to chill out with making them... but they're just so addicting! Anyways, after I finish the two quilts and save enough money to buy more fabric, I'll post pictures of my new quilt! Hopefully it turns out just as cute as the original!

Here's the pattern....

More Crafts

Our ward had an enrichment night making crafts, so of course I went! It was lots of fun and I'm officially addicted to making crafts now haha But I'm not creative enough to make my own....... so I'll just have to do them whenever my ward does :) Anyways, I included some photos.

These are Christmas countdown blocks. They were super easy and cute.

I am in love with these huge clothes pins! They are so simple to make and really cute!

They can hold pictures, recipes in the kitchen, or whatever else you want.

I'm gonna order a bunch more of the clothes pins and make them with all kinds of different paper on the front. Maybe I'll even try selling some! But... don't be surprised if you get one of these as a gift ;)

1st Anniversary!

It is official..... Mitch survived a whole year of being married to me!! Let me just say that I love love LOVE being married to Mtich! I know that it sounds cliche, but I seriously feel like I have the best husband in the world. He is absolutely perfect for me and I couldn't imagine my life without him. I seriously sit and wonder sometimes about how I got lucky enough to find him.. .and then convince him to marry me!! He is truly an amazing person to love me and put up with me :) I can't believe that it's already been a year since our wedding day! Time has gone by so fast, but it has been a super fun year. I can't wait to see what the future brings for us. One year down, an eternity to go!!

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from our wedding day:

Just Married

I love my family!

After cutting the cake.... and in about an hour, we're gonna eat the top cake that we froze :)

My New Love.... Dyson!

I found my new love.... it's name is the Dyson Ball DC24. I think that I'm officially a clean-freak weirdo haha. Since we got married, Mitch and I have been using one of my parents old vacuums. Well it decided to start spitting out more than it was picking up. So.... we finally broke down and bought a new vacuum. Mitch of course wanted to buy the $40 one from Walmart, but unfortunately for him, I am my mother's child. I believe in spending a little more money and getting something that is really good and will last for much longer. I really wanted the full size Dyson Ball, but that was way too much money. Then I found a really good deal on this one at Big Lots! It took a little convincing, but I finally got Mitch to agree to buy it. I am a really big nerd, but it was seriously like Christmas morning when I got to open it! I put it all together really fast and then vacuumed the whole house! It's for all floors... so I even did the tile! I love this vacuum! It picks up ten times as much as our old vacuum. I'm seriously looking forward to vacuuming again on Saturday! I'm a loser, I know :)

It's quite a bit smaller than a normal sized vacuum... it's kinda funny :)

True Love

I've decided that Mitch must truly love me if he puts up with all the things I make him do. Clearly, he isn't always happy about doing them.... but he does them regardless!!

Tired?

Could someone please explain to me how she sleeps like this?! She must have been pretty stinkin tired :)

Christmas Crafts

This last Tuesday, my mother-in-law Becky and I drove out to Enterprise to go to my sister-in-law Jamie's ward enrichment night. She was in charge of the craft this month and they were so cute!! We painted blocks that say "noel" and then made wooden snowmen. They all turned out great! Thanks Jamie for letting us come do them with your ward! And now I just wish that I could do all sorts of new crafts. They're fun to do and I always feel good about myself when I make something cool. haha Anyways here are some pictures :)

So cute, right?!

I love this snowman too! It's cuter in person than in the photo too... for some reason the colors don't look right in the picture.

Newest Quilt...

In my last blog about quilting, I put up a picture of some fabric I bought for two new quilts. Well, slowly but surely, I'm getting them done! Here is the finished product of the girl material. This is my favorite blanket that I've done so far. I think that all of the fabric was super cute!

The front.... and I'm gonna put close ups of some of my favorite fabrics in the quilt...

I picked lots of polka dot fabrics....... I'm sort of obsessed with polka dots in general though

I loved these butterflies!

And this minky is super soft and has a cool paisly pattern

A closer view...

The back ...

And hopefully I'll be posting the boy blanket soon! I just need to make some time and quit avoiding it haha

Halloween

So I realize that it's a bit past Halloween... but I've been horrible at blogging lately! I got a new job and now I never seem to find time to get on here! Anyways, the night before Halloween, we decided that we needed to do something festive! So Mitch, my friend Krishale, my cousin Kim, two of Kim's guy friends, and I carved pumkins. Here are the results......

Can you guess who carved this one? Seriously, he's a fanatic about the Braves!

I carved this wicked witch...

This is Krishale and Kim's pumpkin... he looks so scared and sad!

And here's the little pumpkin family all together :)

After carving the pumpkins, we watched The Haunting in Connecticut. Wow. Let me begin by saying that I hate being scared. Mitch loves scary movies, but they aren't fun to watch for me. So I watch about 4 a year with him. Poor guy. The movie was pretty freaky... at least the parts that I kept my eyes open for haha. I think the creepiest part is that it's based on a true story. Anyways, it was a fun night to hang out with friends and enjoy Halloween!

Vacation to Salt Lake City

The last weekend in September, Mitch and I took a little vacation to SLC. It was fun to get out of St. George for a few days and have a break from real life :) I took picture, of course!

The trees were gorgeous on the drive up to Logan!

...

The Logan temple

Proof that we were there :)

So I fell in love with this house that is across the street from the temple. I loved the was the house looked, but also the fact that it was surrounded by lots of trees and plants, so it was kinda private.

See how hidden it is?! I love it

A view in Logan

A weird house in Logan...

After my parents got married, they moved to Logan while my dad was an Aggie. They lived in these apartments across the street from the cemetary...

This one is for my mom. She loves Aggie ice cream. It was delicious :)

My family would have disowned me if I hadn't stopped at Smith and Edwards!

Cool sunset behind the temple

I know we're really dark, but it was the best we could do haha

Mitch and the upside down temple reflection...

At the Utah vs. Louisville game...

We won!!

The drive to Park City. I love the red and orange leaves!
